Deng Deng Deng!
I placed an order through Sephora.ca about a month ago, as I was very interested in trying Marc Jacob's new makeup line. I pretty much made the order when the line was first launched, so I had no idea which will be hits or misses.
The one product I wanted to try out was the powder foundation -
Let's talk about the packaging... Like every other reviewers, Marc Jacob definitely did a great job in designing his products.
He differentiated his products by rounding the 4 edges on the side, while keeping the traditional black sleek case trend. He also got a little silver push button at the side, which adds a little bit of classiness to the look.
Once the compact is opened, you can see a huge mirror on the lid, and because of this, the weight of the foundation is relatively heavier compared to other compact foundations.
Now on to the product - The color I got is 300 Beige (I am normally a shade 30 in Dior/Chanel foundations), which is the closest color match I could get for my shade. Overall, the color isn't too off, but just a touch too warm on the color spectrum. In a way, it kind of delivers a sun kissed effect with a heavy hand.
Personally, I use this product as a setting powder instead of a foundation. Because this product offers a light to medium coverage, it can barely cover up any blemishes, dark circles or freckles.
However, it does a fantastic job at smoothing out the skin and creating a velvety, healthy radiant finish. The best feature is, that it really keeps your makeup last for more than 8 hours (perfect for those with oily skin).
One complaint I have with this product is that the powder is extremely densely compressed. As a result, it's very hard to get the product onto the brush, and making it difficult to blend evenly on the face. The first time I tried on the foundation, it was not a pleasant experience at all. I even thought of returning the product, after having such a hard time to blend out the foundation.
However, I found a good way to solve this problem. If you want even flawless finish, avoid dense brushes or sponges (if you use those, then you might end up in a blending nightmare). The best tool is to use a big round fluffy brush, swirl the brush around the powder, then gently dust it onto the skin. I think this is the best way to work with this foundation.
Overall, I really like this foundation, as it provides a healthy radiant glow to the skin. Another thing I like about this powder is that it works really well with liquid foundations that are slightly too pale. Since this powder is slightly warmer than my normal skin tone, it works well on balancing out the lighter foundations altogether.
Would I repurchase it? At this point, I probably won't - just because there are many other things which I still need to try out!
